CASE STUDY:
Rickmansworth School – Innovation and Design Block
Building an Innovation and Design block to facilitate modern teaching.
About
Rickmansworth School
Rickmansworth School is an outstanding, partially-selective, comprehensive academy in Croxley Green, Hertfordshire. It is a school for students aged between 11-18. As a hub school for the local School Sports Partnership and specialising in Science and the Arts, it provides its pupils with the opportunities to excel, whilst focusing on nurturing every child.
Due to increasing demand, Rickmansworth School has expanded since 2018. The ECP team has assisted with obtaining funding, and also multiple refurbishment projects, to be able to improve the accommodation. It is now able to provide education for 240 pupils in each year group.
The Project
ECP were tasked with helping support the teaching of technology and design. The requirement was to provide an inspiring learning space and the school were looking at how they could create an Innovation and Design block.
With prior experience working with Rickmansworth School, infact for several years, the school knew to enlist our team to help. Our consultants would be able to share guidance on funding schemes, and advise how to best approach the project.
How ECP Helped
The team were tasked with re-configuring and refurbishing an existing 1970s single storey building, that had previously been used as a technology block.
It consisted of three workshops and stores, however they didn’t suit the proposed delivery of the subject. Therefore, a plan was made to re-model the space into ‘clean workshops’. This would provide a holistic layout, that would be flexible depending on the type of classes being taught.
The end result lives up to its name as an ‘Innovation and Design’ centre. Its styling is bright, modern and clean. It has been kitted out with cutting-edge technology and equipment to explore robotics and future technologies.
