CASE STUDY: St Pauls C of E VA Primary and Nursery School, Watford
Internal alterations helping with privacy issue and additional spaces.
About St Pauls C of E VA Primary and Nursery School
St Pauls C of E Primary and Nursery School is a Voluntary Aided Church of England School based in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire within the Diocese of St Albans. It is a single form entry mixed primary school with an additional nursery class providing education from children aged 3 to 11 years. The original school was built in 1858 by William Jones Loyd and was moved to a modern building set in a woodland area in 1967.
The Project
The school was opened on its present site in 1967, and it is situated within delightful grounds that are surrounded by woodland. The outdoor space is very generous, enabling lots of sporting activities including nature trails.
The school buildings have been extended and altered several times which had left the main reception office and non-teaching areas poorly arranged in terms of location and created somewhat of a rabbit warren to the circulation space.
How ECP Helped
We reviewed the overall site plan, spoke in depth with the school to understand what was needed and agreed a practical solution that didn’t need to increase square footage. We supported the school and successfully won a SCA funding bid for the proposed work with the Diocese.
It consisted of a rearrangement of their internal spaces with minimal construction, which enabled the head teacher to have a new private office to work from, an additional new office for the school business manager and some other internal alterations to simplify the layout and provide much needed storage.
What was really key with this project was that we were able to start and complete everything needed within their half term week, so no disruption to the classes, and could get started very quickly.
