CIF Bids & Funding

ECP - CIF Funding Service

ECP has a wealth of experience in obtaining funding for education estate projects. This includes bidding for the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), for stand-alone academies and small MATs.

The process of obtaining funding from government schemes such as the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) can be seen as quite complex. However at ECP we are well-versed in creating what is needed for the bid process, and going on to secure funding. We understand which projects are more likely to receive funding, and how best to manage them.

At ECP we like to partner with our school for the entire bid process. At no additional upfront cost to the school, we offer our expertise and time. We become stakeholder in the process and will often act on behalf of the school with what is needed.

We can lead the overall process, providing all necessary supporting documentation and expertise to maximise the chance of a successful outcome.

The funding process is typically on a ‘no-win-no-fee’ basis so the school can proceed risk-free with peace of mind.

What is the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF)?

The Condition Improvement Fund (CIF) is for eligible academies, sixth-form colleges and voluntary aided (VA) schools. It is for those that need to secure funding for primarily, condition related needs at their education settings. It’s an annual bidding process and successful applications secure the funding. CIF’s core priority is to support condition projects, with the focus of the fund to keep school and college buildings safe, and in good working order. Funding Allocations

The Department for Education (DfE) allocates funding each year to help maintain and improve the condition of school buildings and grounds. This is either through School Condition Allocations (SCA), where funds are paid to eligible parties responsible for maintaining school buildings. Or the Condition Improvement Fund (CIF), which involves bidding for funds that if successful, are paid to single academy trusts, small multi-academy trusts (MATs), small voluntary aided (VA) bodies and sixth-form colleges.

Schools are either eligible for SCA or CIF depending on their size and type. Local authorities, larger MATs and larger VA school bodies that had 5 or more open schools at the start of September 2023, or had at least 3,000 pupils counted in the spring 2023 census, are eligible for the latest SCA. Schools in smaller academy trusts, smaller VA bodies and sixth-form colleges are eligible for CIF.
